News

Dear Colleagues,

Please find below a robbery incident that took place in a blue taxi in Kemang during he weekend.
On 23 Feb 08, at approx. 2100 hrs, two foreign females and Non-UN staff were robbed and beaten after they took a dark blue taxi with 4 stripes on Jalan Kemang Selatan, Mampang Prapatan, South Jakarta. The incident happened when two men suddenly appeared and forced themselves inside the taxi near the McDonald Fast Food, Kemang area. They beat and subsequently held up by the females in the taxi. One of the victims managed to jump out of the taxi while her companion was dumped at the vicinity of the Indonesian Stock Exchange building. The victims were robbed of mobile phone, camera, and passport and cash money. The incident is currently under investigation by the police.
Considering the circumstances of the above incident, it would appear that the two foreigners mistakenly took a blue color taxi, thinking it was a Blue Bird. In order to avoid similar incidents, staff members are encouraged to be extra careful when taking taxis especially at night. If possible, staff should avoid taking taxis along the streets especially if they look suspicious. It is safer to either call the Blue bird taxi office or arrange through concierge or taxi service attendant. A copy of the Blue Bird Group Taxi, their contact numbers is attached for reference.
UNDSS would be grateful if this advisory is disseminated to all your colleagues for their information and guidance.
Best regards,
